It is time again for Pizza Friday with Jeff (The Pizza Guy). Still under quarantine so we are still evaluating frozen pies. Today, I’m trying out a deep dish – Ginos East.
I’ve maybe only had one other frozen deep dish before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The main concern I had was how do I know when it’s done? I followed the directions on the box to the T, and cooked for 45 minutes at 375. The crust looked golden, so I pulled it out. I waited 4 mins to cut it so the cheese couldn’t slide all around.
Unfortunately, the directions let me down. The cheese was melted and all but it wasn’t hot. It could have used 5 more minutes and it would have been perfect. Outside of that, it was surprisingly good. The sauce was great, the crust was nice and crispy, and the cheese, albeit cold, was tasty. I honestly preferred it to how it tastes when I get it from the shop itself, especially if it would have been hot.
Score – 7/10. This probably would have been an 8/10 with a better bake.
Side note: the perfect angel in the corner is Miso and she loves pizza too.
