Hardcore Normcore, a brown ale with coffee, by Pipeworks Brewing Company in Chicago, Illinois is this weeks beer. Sold in 4 pack, 16 ounce cans with and alcohol content of 6%. $12.00 per pack from the brewery. This can was brewed on April 3 of this year. Chicago’s Dark Matter Coffee is the coffee used in this beer.
Looking at the beer, it’s a dark brown. You can just barely see through it. Its clear but super dark. It also has a very light brown head. The smell just bowls you over with coffee. I would say the scent is similar to coffee from a gas station. I was unable to pull any other scents during the smell test.
I love the smell of this one. The taste has obviously a strong coffee flavor as well. It dominates everything. The beer itself is a bit thin though. I don’t mean that to be a negative but it is a bit aqueous. I would like a little more body on the beer but it’s not bad.
Would I recommend this beer? One answer: coffee. If you like the smell and taste of coffee, this is a beer for you. Its not a sweet coffee but a regular old coffee flavor, and good. I would definitely say try this beer if you find it.
